21/06/2018 - 13:00 to 15:0090 Beswicke Royds StUnited KingdomRochdaleOL16 2XDTimewise the event is 1-3pm so anything that can be done during the event would be amazing. I think it will probably help if I give you a bit of background to the purpose of the event too. Hopefully I wont waffle too much lol.Basically the event is a celebration of the end of one project (completion of a wildlife observation deck along the river) and the beginning of two new projects that we are starting with Kashmir Youth Projects children's nursery and elders group. These projects are firstly a cultural herb project whereby we are trying to capture the knowledge of members of the community and their memories and experiences of using herbs medicinally, e.g knit bone, turmeric etc. Knowledge which seems to be sadly almost lost amongst the younger generations. This will be turned into a book which can be used to document all the things we learn and there will be a dedicated sensory herb garden at the allotment for this. The project generally aims to bring the diverse cultural groups across Rochdale together to learn about each others rich cultural history and the event we hope will tap into this by we hope celebrating the European culture of celebrating the solstice which of course coincides with celebrations world wide linked with various festivals. KYP are going to link it in with their Eid celebrations. We are also launching an RHS Northwest In Bloom Competition entry whereby we are 'reclaiming the street' so to speak. We have a representative from the RHS coming down to lead a hanging basket and pot workshop and the plan is to make as many as possible to create a beautiful display along a large stretch of Belfield Road.On the day, going off the RSVP list so far we are expecting about 80 people. If the weathers nice maybe more. This comprises of members of the public and the groups that use the site. We have nursery children, school groups, learning disability groups. Its wide ranging. The school group, (Spring side school) are hoping to bring their own maypole too!I'm hoping to make floral head dresses too out of wildflowers but due to a mishap with a strimmer lol there may not be enough, time will tell. Oh and we have a herbalist Zoe attending to lead a herb walk and an artist to lead a session on art work for the book using natural dyes.We will be putting on a buffet for everyone and a few people are bringing food to share too, we have also invited the mayor and mayoress, a representative from Kew Gardens Grow Wild and the founder of Incredible Edible who have been immensely supportive of our project so it would be great to put on a good show!In terms of logistics ( I think I was about 10 when I last did a may pole dance,) we have a grassed area that's fairly large and flat, if you need specific dimensions or indeed anything else you'd need to know please do let me know.
